Today on the bus ride home I sat at the back of the bus listening to my mp3 player.
A moment later, this woman who looked really sick went up to me and pointed in my direction and said something that I couldn't hear. All I could hear is that she was dehydrated and needed something. I got up, off my seat, thinking that she wanted to take my seat; however, she actually needed a drink. So I gave her my waterbottle and I sat in a different seat.
After she drank some water, she asked out loud if anyone had a phone she could use.
I offered her mine and she started dialing.
She stopped dialing and she asked anyone for some Juice because she complained that my water wasn't going down her throat very well.
The girl beside me told her that she had an apple to offer, but the girl asked the woman if she was sick. Because the apple would make it worse.
The woman said it's okay and wanted the apple since she hadn't had anything to eat.
The girl asked if she wanted any gum.
The woman chuckled a little and told her that it'd probably make her more sick. So the woman asked for the apple, and the girl handed it over to her.
She took a bite, and tried dialing again.
She stopped dialing and she asked me if I could dial a number for her and talk to "Jay" and tell "Jay" that "Minnie" found a lot of money on the ground and would be able to pay "Jay" back the money. And she also told me to pretend that I was the "Bus driver". Basically she wanted me to lie something about someone oweing someone some money.
The girl sitting beside me whispered, "Don't do it."
I hesitated, and I pretended to dial, and looked up at the woman and told her that the number isn't going through.
And she asked if she could try.
I handed her the phone, because I'm realizing that she can't dial very well, since her first attempts failed.
The girl beside me again whispered, "What's your number?"
She wanted to dial my cellphone to intercept the call between the woman and "Jay".
I couldn't give her my number because I was distracted with this woman and my phone.
I took the phone back from her and told her that I'd give it another try.
I pretended to dial the number, and again I told her I'm not able to connect.
The woman decided that the number was busy.
I asked the woman if she could give my water back ( the waterbottle was around her left armpit ). The woman looked around her and back and she couldn't find the waterbottle.
I told her that it was under her left arm. And she said, "Oh".
And she handed me the waterbottle.
She then walked away to the front of the bus, asking if anyone could lend her a phone.
I gave a sigh of relief. And the boy on the other side of the bus told me that she comes in this bus all the time like this.
She found another person to lend her a phone.
The girl beside me said, "Look, she's using someone's phone".
The woman was calling someone. The call connected and she was talking to "Frank". At the end of the call she said, "I miss you Frank".
The girl beside me was a little confused.
I told her that it was probably a different number than the one she wanted me to dial to talk to Jay.
During the bus ride, the girl beside me dialed some number and I overheard a, "yeah, she's questioning a lot...". She was probably contacting the authorities about this.
I didn't know it was a big deal. But that Jay phone call isn't something I was willing to risk.
When we were closer to my bus stop, the woman came back and asked if she could borrow my phone again.
I told her that I have to get off here.
And I left.
I looked at my "Dialed Calls" list and to my amazement, she called 3 different 12 digit numbers all starting with *.
I think she was hiding my phone number while dialing. However, that costs me money. =o
Now I see the bigger picture. "Jay" is probably some drug dealer, and by the looks of it, her throat was deteriorating from the use of drugs. Now it all makes sense.
I made sure to wash my hands, just in case she had some sort of throat disease. I really don't want to get sick. Also, I threw my waterbottle in the garbage, because I didn't want to take any risks.
