19.6.08 A few seconds of death posted by Pax @ 8:54 pm
Apparently I had some sort of near death experience today.

My co-worker is having some fun and he decides to wrap his arm around my neck.
He usually does this, yet in a friendly way.

This time I didn't expect he was going for the full sleeper hold.

He says to me, "Tapout! Tapout!"

I think he's just kidding around. I don't say anything.

I think I lose my hearing. And then....

---------------------------------------------------------
In a time span in which any memories cannot be recalled. Can it be a void of darkness?
I cannot say. This is the unusual part of the blackout because it defies the rules of time? Progression? I don't know what to call it.
---------------------------------------------------------

WOAH, I just wake up. Everything is dizzy. I don't know where I am. I feel no time has passed by after he said "Tapout", but apparently I was out cold, eyes wide open for 3-5 seconds, as he later on tells me.

He says to me, "Are you okay?"

I reply, "I feel so sick." I begin to feel the blood pouring from my neck back into my head.

It seems that after a blackout, the brain shuts down and you can't tell the amount of time that elapses in between the knockout.

We are both freaked out. He's just so much more ecstatic and excited about what he has just done to me. He goes off giggling and telling others about his recent cruel and unjust act.

=(

Near-death?
Don't make me laugh.

The guy was in total control. You were in the presence of a pro who wouldn't let you die.

Tough, because you blacked out, you probably lost a good deal of brain cells.

I'm going to choke you out the next time I see you ^^

...Um. Blacking out for a few seconds is nowhere near death. I thought you were going to work on your dramatizations?

And also, when someone holds you that uncomfortably as a joke you are supposed to fight back/tell them you can't handle it. Other people don't know the limits of your body.

A chokehold could lead to death. Here's why:

I was sitting still on a computer desk, at work, for more than a couple of hours.

This means I was immobile for some time before the choke. My body wasn't moving much, so my blood wasn't circulating very well. My body was in the best position to be choked out in a short amount of time.

I did tell him to stop!
But it only took a couple of seconds for me to blackout because of the poor blood circulation from sitting at a desk for long periods of time.

If my co-worker kept my head upright and did not let my head fall over, blood wouldn't be able to rush back up and so, I can be dead in ten minutes. But, it could be much less than that - because once I faint, I lose control of my airway and it's possible I could choke on my tongue and suffocate in a matter of seconds. Very dangerous.
